What is Google Adsense?

Whilst you are reading this article about Google's Adsense program, glance to the right and you will see 'ads by goooogle'. I am an approved Adsense publisher so Google scans my editorial and places relevant links on this page. I am operating an Adsense program whilst the advertisers are operating an Adwords program, the difference being, Adwords clients use my site to place their ads via the Adsense program.

Revenue is generated from Adsense when visitors click on the Adwords links. To get started you'll need to have a website for Google to approve. Go to www.google.com/adsense and sign up for the program. If you have more than one site, once approved, you can place ads on as many of your sites as you wish as long as you adhere to the Adsense TOS (terms of service).

There are two income opportunities. Adsense 'content' ads like those on the right and the opportunity to place the Google search facility on your site. It can either search the web and/or your site too. So not only does it provide a search engine for your own site, it provides an opportunity to generate revenue from clicks as a result of searches.

In order to maximise the revenue from your site with Adsense, it is important to optimise your pages. The better your optimisation, the better the quality of advertisements that in-turn pay higher commissions. Follow any good guide for tips and tricks but always be mindful that keywords are important in your text. Google pays from say $0.03 to $30.00 and more per click depending on the keyword. I won't go into what keywords pay the most and I'm sure you'll find ads and links on this very page from businesses offering the ebooks and facilities. I mentioned earlier that Adwords is the counterpart of Adsense. I suggest you look at Adwords not just from the point of view of learning how Adwords really work, but to market and promote your website.
